WHO'S WHO in
Donna Housel

I am Donna Whitford Housel, also known art-wise as Donna Housel. I have always lived in very rural Bedford County and spent my free time in the woods or creeks. My indoor pass time was my colored pencils and pastels. After our son didn't need a full-time chauffeur I began attending the Foundry Art Studio in Everett, Pa. with Mouse (Melinda) Myers. For the last 33 yrs, I have lived with my husband Ben, our two dogs, Ranger and Cuddles, and our cat Ms. Kitty, on the Housel family farm. We have horses that I truly love. We are spending our son's inheritance! I'm also a foal sitter at a local Equine Clinic taking care of sick newborn foals. I am a "retired" long-distance runner, running Marine Corp, Pittsburgh, and Johnstown marathons. I am not a born runner, so it took much determination, sweat, and tears to complete. The best finish time was Pittsburgh at 3hrs, 53min. I have collected data for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for the last 35 yrs and collected data for two Breeding Birds of Pa. Atlases.

I currently work as a part-time art instructor at Allegany College of Md, Cumberland campus, teaching pastels and colored pencils. I teach a drawing class at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cumberland, Md. Actually, it is more of a drawing social than a class. I have had several solo exhibits at CACCC, Cumberland, Md, Garrett College, Md, and Bedford County Art Center when it existed. I will be exhibiting at Bottle Works Oct, 23: Ice House, Berkeley Springs, W. Va. Nov. 2024. I was wildlife artist of the year at CACCC in 2013?, and teacher of the year at CACCC in 2016. I am a juried Associate member of the Pastel Society of America.
